Fleet Management Limited is an independent
ship management company which operates a fleet of 200 plus ocean going
vessels. The company has its head office at Hong Kong and technical management
offices at London, Singapore, Mumbai, Cyprus and Houston. Fleet Management
Limited is one of the largest recruiters of Trainee Marine Engineers
and Deck Cadets in India.

TOLAS (Training On Land and Sea) is an innovation in the field of Maritime Training. It is a training application which allows our pool of more than 7000 seafarers to access a comprehensive ‘Body of Knowledge’ both at our world-wide offices and training center (On Land) and onboard ship (At Sea). This ‘Body of Knowledge’ is available on the website http://training.fleetship.com of Fleet Management Training Institute (FMTI). Same website is replicated on the servers installed at various remote locations on land and sea (ships). This E-Learning Management System along with entire network of servers and database is named TOLAS.
Technical Information
In each of our office and on each of our ship, we have installed a TOLAS server which contains a library of over 500 items of training material.
The training material is uploaded on a main server in Mumbai. It is then synchronized online overnight with satellite offices’ server at India and abroad. In this way the training material and training record is updated daily at all locations.
Onboard TOLAS server creates the replica of FMTI website. This pseudo-website is accessible from all the shipboard PCs connected via a hub. In addition, a dedicated training computer is provided on the ship, which gives 24x7 access to crew for training. Any new training material created is updated on ships by DVD or hard disk.
All training data is synchronized between ship and office by zipped xml files, which automatically updates are main company website http://www.fleetship.com. Office personnel are able to see the training record and statistics almost real time. Individualized training record is maintained permanently on the server and gives all details like -date, score and pass/fail status of the trainee.

On basis of rank and type of ship, the in-built training manager program decides the ‘Required’ and ‘Recommended’ training modules for an individual. All ‘Required’ modules are followed by an online Question and Answer (Q & A) section.
All training material are created and edited in-house at FMTI in Mumbai.
